I first met Amy as my yoga instructor but she quickly became much more than that. When I lost my daughter to suicide over a year ago my world as I knew it fell apart. I can honestly say with confidence Amy has been the person most instrumental in helping me find some peace and clarity in the haze of pain, grief, guilt, confusion. Because of her loving, compassionate, intuitive spirit I was able to TRUST her with my deepest feelings. With her guidance I was able to begin to release my worst fears and self doubt. I am still on the path of healing but I have found a way of continuing to live in this world with a greater appreciation for the beauty all around me. Out of life’s challenges come some of the most amazing blessings. In 2012, just five month after losing my mom to Breast Cancer, I myself was diagnosed at 38. Needless to say, I was absolutely in shock and so far from being prepared for the challenge ahead. Western Medicine’s standard protocol for my aggressive cancer would include surgery, intense chemotherapy, radiation and the wait and see years. I worked with a Functional Medicine Doctor, Naturopathic Oncologist and Medical Oncologist; all which gave me great direction. Yet half way through chemotherapy; tired, anxious and scared I found that what I had neglected to support was my mind, physical body and emotions.
The oncologist was more than happy to provide prescriptions for my anxiety, but I did not want any more medication and knew that I needed to learn to control my fear and emotions not only for this challenge in my life but others ahead. A friend recommended that I try Yoga and Meditation and knew of someone in the neighborhood to contact. I had done a lot of reading about both and figured it would be worth a shot. I made the call and in so many ways that phone call has changed my life!!
After explaining to Amy my current challenges and struggles I had the chance to attend one of her Yoga classes and work with her one on one. The first day I met her I felt a connection that I believe few are lucky enough to find in a lifetime. She was so compassionate, loving, and positive and had some many suggestions and recommendations that would help me with my journey. I left my first class with a sense of peace and renewed energy. I have been so blessed by the lessons I have learned and continue to learn about my body, breathing to calm my anxiety, meditation to focus and the Yoga to open up and heal my physical body. The depth of her knowledge and professionalism never ceases to amaze me and I am not sure how I ever functioned without it. Her loving and nurturing personality brings comfort to everyone she is around and there is a sense of tranquility in her presence.
Anyone who experiences a life changing event will often have advice for those who may find themselves in the same or similar circumstances. Amy would be the first person I would recommend to anyone who was dealing with an illness, struggle or just wanted to disconnect from their crazy life and connect with their body, mind and spirit. I strongly believe that the support and guidance that I received from Amy during treatment should be standard protocol for all cancer patients and offered by all oncologist. It made a huge difference in my healing process and now in how I will choose to lead a healthy, happy life. Cancer has changed my life but without it I would not have changed my life. Today, thanks to Amy and her continued teachings I have a life that is healthier in so many ways. Jennifer Miller/Mom/ Foothill Ranch California

“It’s not the men in your life, it’s the life in your men.” – Mae West
If I can be bold, I’d like to paraphrase for Amy and say: It's not the yoga in your life, it’s the life in your yoga. Amy has been successful in guiding me to experience that my life with yoga is not just poses but the breath that opens the heart and helps develop the strength to meet my daily challenges.
